Hi,
I am a student of the Architecture and Design school. I like design and like to visit expos, galleries and museums.
In June 2008 I went to Christchurch and visited Morris & Co exhibition. Morris&Co was an English company and one of the first companies who started and made Art Nouveour style. William Morris is one of the greatest pattern designers of all time and he is the man behind the firm Morris & Co. - led the arts and crafts movement of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He remailns a remarkable figure more than a century after his death. The show of Morris & Co was presenting in Christchurch Art Gallery in Christchurch during 14 March - 29 June 2008.
I thought the exhibition brought together some of the exquitire carpets, wall papers, tapestries, ceramics, embroideries, furniture and textiles produced by Morris & Co. - as well as books from Morris's renowned Kelmscott Press. Also stained glass windows in Canterbury were also on the balconies upstairs at the Gallery.
I got very impressed from this shaw and I think that was the stunning collection presenting pattern as art. And it was very interesting to see the traditional values of handcrafting, natural materials, beautiful colors and thoughtful design.
